Mother's viral post claims Dillard's saleswoman 'body shamed' daughter

Saleswoman suggested her daughter wear Spanx with her dress

In the post, the mother says she and her daughter went to to Dillard's to try on formal dresses.

The mother says her daughter tried on the red dress pictured. She told her daughter that she thought she looked grown up in the dress, which made her smile.

She then posts that the saleswoman came over to them and suggested that her daughter wear Spanx with the dress. Spanx makes undergarments designed to shape the wearer and make the person appear thinner.

The mother quickly left the store and wrote the following in response:

"I wish I had told you how many girls suffer from poor self image and telling them they need something to make them perfect can be very damaging. Girls of all ages, shapes and sizes are perfect because that is how God made them."

She then went on to say her daughter swims, runs, dances and does yoga. "She's fit. She's beautiful," the mother added.

The post was signed "Mother of a beautiful girl."
