Murder suspect left note saying victim was having affair, affidavit says

Paulo Gonzalez Chavez accused of strangling girlfriend

SAN ANTONIO – A note left at the scene of a West Side strangulation murder reportedly is giving San Antonio police insight into the mind of the suspected killer.

Police arrested Paulo Gonzalez Chavez, 40, Thursday night on a charge of murder.

Authorities believe Gonzalez Chavez strangled his girlfriend, Idalia Celedon Becerra, 29, Monday inside her home in the 3300 block of Morales Street.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, her body was propped up in bed with a blanket covering it head to toe, and there were ligature marks on her neck.

Police mentioned at the time of Gonzalez Chavez's arrest that he had left a note near her body, but they did not go into detail about its contents.

The affidavit, though, spells out what was in that note.

It says that the suspect declared his love for Celedon Becerra, but also mentioned that he had done something "stupid" because he found out she had an affair with another man.

The affidavit also said that the victim's brother told police he had received a text message from Gonzalez Chavez the day of the murder, telling him that he needed to pick up Celedon Becerra's children from school.
