Feds said to have paid $1.9 million for property


The Atlanta house where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born and raised has reportedly sold to the National Park Service for $1.9 million.

ATLANTA (WGCL via CNN Wire) -- The childhood home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has a new owner.

WGCL learned Wednesday the National Park Service purchased the historic site on Auburn Avenue. The King Center would not confirm the price of the sale, but sources said the home sold for $1.9 million.

The home was originally purchased in 1909 by the grandparents of the civil rights leader.

WGCL reached out to officials with the King Center for comment but they were unavailable.
