New Braunfels PD mourns death of retired K-9

Hondo died of natural causes at the age of 12

NEW BRAUNFELS – New Braunfels police officers will be wearing a black band over their badges this week in honor of a retired NBPD K-9 who died over the weekend.

According to the department’s Facebook page Hondo served with the New Braunfels Police Department alongside Detective Chris Scott for six years. After his retirement, he lived with the Scotts and became a family member.

Hondo died of natural causes at 12 years old. He was laid to rest at the Scotts' family ranch in Medina County.

The New Braunfels Police Department members will wear the black band over their badge through Friday, June 16 as a “symbol of support for the Scott family and the NBPD Canine Unit.”
