New Braunfels traffic stop leads to human trafficking arrest

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - A traffic stop in New Braunfels led to a human trafficking arrest.

Roderick Tasby, 30, was pulled over on Interstate 35 North near South Mesquite Avenue on Friday. The officer noticed a smell of marijuana and detained him and a 14-year-old girl who was also in the car.

The officer learned the girl was listed as a runaway and had numerous escort ads posted online. The officer also learned that Tasby had tried to hide marijuana during the stop.

Tasby was taken to the Comal County jail on charges of tampering with evidence, possession of marijuana and failure to ID.

The Comal County District Attorney’s Office also charged Tasby with human trafficking, a first-degree felony. An additional bond of $300,000 was issued.

The 14-year-old girl has since been reunited with family members.
