SAN ANTONIO – A closer look into the life of the man accused of shooting two San Antonio police officers Thursday is shedding new light on the events leading up to the shootout that took the life of a San Antonio Police Department officer.
Andrew Bice, 34, is accused of fatally shooting Officer Miguel Moreno, 32, and injuring Officer Julio Cavazos, 36, before killing himself.

Moreno and Cavazos were investigating car burglaries when they stopped Bice and another man in the 200 block of West Evergreen Street Thursday afternoon.
Court records show Bice had a lengthy criminal past.
Here's what we know about Bice...
He had lived in San Antonio, Houston and Mandeville, Louisiana
Online records show Bice lived in San Antonio, Houston and Mandeville, Louisiana. His last known address with the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office show he lived in the San Antonio area, however, the person living at that address now told our reporter they did not know Bice and have lived at that address for three years.
Bice had run-ins with Bexar County law enforcement officers
Online records show Bice had previous charges including assault causing bodily injury against a family member, possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest in Bexar County.
Bice had been booked on 30 charges on nine occasions in Louisiana
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed via phone Bice had been booked on the following dates on the following charges

Bice had a partner of over a year
Bice's self-proclaimed fiancée, Shelia Landry, told KSAT 12 she had been dating Bice for over a year and that they were supposed to get married in February.
Late Friday night, Bice’s mother, Terri Lopez, said Landry was not engaged to her son. She said Bice had to get a restraining order to keep Landry away from him after she stalked and harassed him. Lopez said the pair broke up in November or December.
Lopez said she last talked to Bice on Tuesday morning.
“Something spooked him to make him leave,” Lopez said. “He took his belongings, tried to get his last paycheck. He stopped answering my calls and texts.”
Lopez said Bice did not leave a note.
On Thursday, Lopez’s husband told her some guns were missing from their home.
“I thought he took those to sell for cash,” Lopez said.
Landry says Bice was on the run from authorities in Louisiana
"He had done a burglary here in Mandeville, Louisiana, and fled the scene after he did the burglary," Landry said. "I told him I would get a lawyer to get him out of jail. I didn't want nothing bad for him." Landry said the warrant came out Friday. However, the St. Tammany Parrish Sheriff’s Office was unable to confirm the warrant Friday afternoon.
Lopez said Bice was due in a Louisiana courtroom in August on a child abuse charge. She said he spanked Landry's son after the child urinated on him.
Landry says she last talked to him at 1 p.m. Thursday
Landry said when she called back at 5 p.m., his phone was off and she knew something bad had happened. "He texted me yesterday saying he felt so alone and he wanted me to come out there," Landry said. "I kept telling him, I'm coming. It's going to be OK. Wait for me." Landry said she got the news Bice had killed himself early this morning as she was preparing to leave for San Antonio. "I knew something bad happened, but I didn't think all of this at one time," she said.
Landry said she knew Bice was armed and when they last talked, he told her he had a gun and would pull up his shirt and show anyone who tried to mess with him.
Lopez said Landry was not supposed to contact Bice or any of his family members.
“If Andrew had contact with Shelia, that could be something that possibly set him off,” Lopez said.
His alleged fiancee says he had a drug problem
"He had a drug problem," Landry said. "Very, very bad. He was on heroin. Very, very bad. That's why he stole what he stole from his job." Landry said Bice was using drugs while in San Antonio and she said she "could tell" he was high on heroin when they last talked at 1 p.m.
He was afraid of going back to prison
"He was very afraid to go back to jail," Landry said. "He did not want to go back to prison for nothing in the world." Landry said Bice told her he ran out of money and was about to start "popping cars" for cash. "Maybe he popped some cars before I could get out there, and that's why the police came at him," Landry said. "And then when the police did come at him, that's why he shot -- of course -- because he did not want to go back to jail. He was very scared to go back to prison for the rest of his life."
Lopez learned Friday from her son's adoptive father about the shooting.
“(Bice) has been in trouble, but he’s not a violent person. Him shooting a police officer would be the last thing on anyone’s mind,” Lopez said.
The wound of her son’s death and the shooting of the officers is still fresh. Lopez preferred to remember her son in better times.
“Andrew was sweet, had a joyful spirit and a kind soul,” Lopez said.
