Newly renovated Little Free Library dedicated

Library expanded thanks to grant

SAN ANTONIO – Five Palms Elementary School celebrated the grand re-opening of its newly renovated Little Free Library.

The original library was dedicated two years ago, but was renovated and expanded thanks to an award from Community First Health Plan.

First-grade teacher Maria Luisa Cardenas was the winner of its Fall Ahead contest.

She said she hopes that the renovated library helps encourage students.

"It's been a really amazing experience,” Cardenas said. “We're very grateful for the grant and we're going to be able to provide our community and students with books all year-round"

The library was also dedicated to fallen soldier and former South San Antonio ISD student Sgt. Juan Jimenez.

He died while serving in Vietnam.
