Northeast Side home target of 2 drive-by shootings in 2 days

Man hospitalized, house riddled with dozens of bullet holes, has busted pipe

SAN ANTONIO – Doug Smith said he's finding it hard to understand how the home he owns and rents out to a family of four on Trumpet Circle became the target of gun violence twice in two days.

“We got a call from our neighbor on Saturday morning, actually a text, saying there was a drive-by shooting,” Smith said. “They say it goes 'bang, bang, bang.' It's like you hear in the movies. It's a war zone.”

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said a man inside the house was hit by gunfire and was taken to a hospital.

“We saw blood on the kitchen floor, on the tiles,” Smith said.

There home was riddled with dozens of bullet holes.

“Over a hundred shots. The Sheriff’s Department says it was like an AR," Smith said.

Before Smith could fully analyze what had happened at his retirement investment property, he received another round of bad news.

“We got another text from our neighbor saying there was another drive-by shooting yesterday morning, about 1:30 Sunday morning,” Smith said.

Smith said the house was hit about two dozen more times, and at least one of those rounds hit a water pipe.

“As I opened the door yesterday, I stepped in water. My house was flooded,” Smith said.

On Monday, cleanup crews were drying out the house. Smith said he'll concentrate on patching holes and replacing the garage door and broken windows next.

Meanwhile, neighbors are also hard at work. Their focus is to keep the community safe.

“The neighbors have united. They've put up cameras, and they’ve been cooperating with the Bexar County Sheriff's (Office),” Smith said.

Smith says his tenants are staying elsewhere for now.

Authorities still have not made an arrest in the drive-by shootings. BCSO has not confirmed if the two separate incidents are related.

Those with any information are asked to notify authorities.
