North Side apartment complex targeted by mail thieves

USPS investigating thefts

SAN ANTONIO – A North Side apartment complex became the latest target if mail theft. Residents at Canyon Oaks Apartments received a letter Thursday, notifying them about mailbox break-ins.

The apartments are located on Henderson Pass near Thousand Oaks. It appears someone used a tool, or crowbar, to get into the mailboxes.

One resident said the break-ins have happened at least twice. The latest incident happened last Saturday.

“I didn't think it was anything serious, but then we come to the office and you’re like, ‘No, this is real serious.’ This is a lot of times. I'm just curious what's going on,” said Seth Rincon, a resident at Canyon Oaks. “It’s like they’re after something.”

The U.S. Postal Service is investigating. Management at the complex said it has changed the key to its mailroom, and crews are working quickly to repair the damage.

Anyone who was affected by the break-in can pick up their mail from the local post office.
