SAN ANTONIO - An apartment fire on the North Side forced families out in the cold Thursday night.

The fire happened around 8 p.m. on Broadway Street near East Highlands Ranch Parkway.

Firefighters said the fire started in a chimney and quickly spread. Two apartments -- one on the ground floor and the other above -- were damaged.

Firefighters have taken the chimney apart and are working to figure out what caused the fire.
