Officer dragged in chase, 2 arrested

Officer responded to silent alarm

SAN ANTONIO – Two people were arrested Saturday after allegedly triggering a silent alarm and leading police on a chase.

According to San Antonio police, officers found a man and woman waiting in a vehicle with the engine turned on behind the PetSmart in the 1800 block of Bandera Road. The officer asked the man driving to turn off the vehicle, but instead he drove off, reportedly dragging the officer about 50 feet, police said.

Police initiated a helicopter search once the suspects led officers down Bandera Road. At the intersection of General McMullen and Culebra Road, the driver crashed into another vehicle, police said.

Police arrested the driver in the chase and his female passenger. The driver is charged with evading arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer with a motor vehicle.

The officer who was dragged suffered a few bumps and bruises, but is okay.
