SAN ANTONIO – The police department and the city's Human Services Department on Tuesday gave an update on the city's homeless plan.
The city said panhandling citywide went down about 28 percent from Jan. 1, 2016, to April 30, 2017.

The city is also working on encampment outreach plans.
Some of the areas of concern are the Military-Goliad-Zarzamora area, the area on Marbach behind the strip mall, the Ingram-Wurzbach-Hillcrest area by Ingram Park Mall and the De Zavala-Silicon-Farinon area across from the Walmart.
“When people are educated about what is available and know the options, they will take the options, so that is our part. It's not us waiting for people to come to us, but us going out into the community,” District 3 Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran said.
The unsheltered street count in San Antonio and Bexar County is 441 people. Since last December, the city has pushed for a community outreach approach to convince homeless people to get services or treatment.
