SAN ANTONIO - The Board of Trustees at Our Lady of the Lake University decided unanimously to opt out of Texas’ open-carry.
The decision Thursday allows the private university to prohibit people with concealed handgun licenses from carrying a firearm on campus.
"The OLLU community and its board took this responsibility very seriously as we explored the options and made the decision," said Roy Terracina, chairman of the board of trustees.
University president Diane E. Melby said nearly 1,300 faculty, staff and students participated as leaders mulled over the new law.
The decision means the four largest private universities in San Antonio: OLLU, Trinity, University of the Incarnate Word and St. Mary’s have opted out of the new law.
