One of two suspects arrested in beating death of man found near abandoned building

Edward Grant, 33, arrested in death of Rashad Lasdon, 30

SAN ANTONIO – One of two suspects wanted in the slaying of a man who was found near an abandoned building on the Northeast Side has been arrested.

Edward Grant, 33, was arrested in connection with the death of Rashad Ladson, 30.

A second suspect, 39-year-old Edward Hudson, was said to be the other primary suspect involved, but police have not been able locate him.

Ladson was found dead on Oct. 8 in the 4700 block of Rittiman Road. Police said the area is known as a hangout for the homeless.

According to SAPD, witnesses told police that Ladson went to a homeless camp with a gun as if he was trying to rob them, but several males in the shed overpowered him and took the gun.

According to an affidavit, nine people tied Ladson up with duct tape, beat him with wooden boards and the gun he came with for close to two hours.

Ladson was struck with a 4x4 wooden board and his body was tossed in a grassy area nearby.

According to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office, Ladson suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

Despite allegations that Ladson started the altercation, his mother, Cassandra Pearson, admitted her son was trying to buy marijuana, but said he was the one who was robbed.

“They took all of his stuff, when I saw my son on that ground, he had a shirt on, they took his pants, his shoes, they took everything off of him, so who looks like who got robbed?“ said Pearson.

Pearson said she wants justice not only for her son, but the 10 year old daughter and 2 year old son he leaves behind.

In addition to Hudson, she wants the seven other people who were involved to be arrested.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call San Antonio Crime Stoppers at 210-224-7867.
