Parents surprised by allegations of inappropriate relationships between teachers-students at KISD

Superintendent: KISD cooperating with police

KERRVILLE, Texas – Parents received a letter Thursday from Kerrville Independent School District Superintendent Mark Foust, letting them know that on two separate occasions, high school teachers were accused of having inappropriate relationships with students.

"I was a little shocked, but, like I said, I wasn't real quick to jump to conclusions,” said Krystal Rios, who is a parent to a freshman and sophomore at the high school. “These are pretty serious allegations, and I wouldn't want to spread it any further or make up any stories or start any rumors.”

Foust said the first allegation of student-teacher misconduct came a week ago and is unrelated to the second allegation, which came on Tuesday. He didn't say what alleged actions took place, but the district is cooperating with police.

"If it's something that they did do, then, of course, they need to be let go," said Daron Gutierrez, who is a parent of two children at the high school.

If the allegations do turn out to be true, parents said the blame can only be placed on the former teachers, and the students involved share the responsibility as well.

"I just think that if my kids are educated enough about the situation and how to react if something inappropriate were to happen, I think that's the main part is educate your children," Rios said.

Meanwhile, parents are satisfied with how quickly school officials took action.

"That's a good thing, that they were able to move and deal with the situation right away," Joel Rios said.
