SAN ANTONIO - A pedestrian was killed Wednesday night after being struck by an SUV as he walked across Southwest Military Drive.

Police said the victim, a 50-year-old man, was attempting to cross SW Military near South Flores when he was struck by a white Suburban.

The force of the impact knocked the man out of his shoes. He was not using the crosswalk which was just a few hundred feet away from where he was hit.

Several witnesses saw the SUV hit the victim. At least one driver who witnessed the accident followed the driver who fled the scene.

That driver called police and remained on the phone as they followed the suspect vehicle.

Officers eventually caught up to the suspect at Mally and Pleasanton Road, several miles from the scene of the accident.

The suspect was described as a 45-year-old man. Investigators weren't sure if the driver was under the influence of drugs of alcohol. He will be charged with failing to stop and render aid and fleeing the scene of fatal accident.
