SAN ANTONIO - The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office identified the couple killed in a murder-suicide early Monday on the city's Southeast Side.
The couple were identified as Patricia Harwood, 60, and Gary Harwood, 62.
Gary Harwood shot and killed his wife and then took his own life in front of his sister, police said.
"(She) heard a 'pop' and got out of bed, went into the living room, saw her brother standing there. Told her he was going to kill himself, and then he did," said Officer Allen Johnson, of the San Antonio Police Department.
The killings left neighbors in shock.
"I felt sick; I felt nauseous because this type of stuff does not happen," said Erika Martinez, a neighbor. "This is such a quiet, peaceful neighborhood, so for this to happen, it's surreal."
Patricia Harwood had apparently filed for divorce a couple of weeks ago, which caught Martinez by surprise.
"They were fine, everything looked fine, but I guess you never really know," she said. "But they looked happy. There were no signs of any sort of confrontation between the two. They looked fine."
