Emergency crews respond to explosion, fire at NW Side home

Fire was reported at 4 p.m. in 8500 block of Pendragon Street

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio fire and police responded to an explosion and fatality at a home on the city’s Northwest Side.

The incident began around 4 p.m. in the 8500 block of Pendragon Street.

A neighbor told KSAT that he heard an explosion and saw the body of a man in a yard across the street.

San Antonio police said it appears the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He appeared to be in his 40s or 50s. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said the fire is being investigated as arson and an accelerant was used.

The home sustained major damage as a result of the explosion.

Police confirmed the other family members inside the home made it out without injury.
