Police seek clues after discovery of headless, burning body

SAN ANTONIO – Police are trying to identify the body of a who was man found burning Sunday morning alongside a dumpster on Goliad Road. His head and hands had been cut off.

Investigators were candid as they began their probe.

“There is a little bit of skill and a lot of luck, and we’re hoping the two collide,” Sgt. Jesse Salame said.

All they know for certain is that it is the body of a man.

Salame said that investigators looking for assistance from the medical examiner’s forensic scientists.

Asked if they’d recovered only the body at the scene, Salame said “I cannot comment on that any further right now, because I don’t want to jeopardize the investigation.”

He said officials are asking for the public’s help. He said identifying relatives could assist in providing DNA information.

“If we can identify a family member, there could be a situation where we could utilize DNA,” Salame said.

He said that detectives are looking at all possibilities, including a mafia hit.

“It’s really too early to try to put it into a box,” he said. “We’re really just going to keep an open mind.”
