Federal judge to rule on constitutionality in coming days

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The city of San Marcos is the latest city to join the debate over Senate Bill 4.

The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to file a brief in opposition to the "sanctuary cities" law.

San Marcos joins the town of El Cenizo and many other communities, including San Antonio, in its opposition to the legislation signed by Gov. Greg Abbott earlier this year.

A federal judge in San Antonio is currently reviewing a lawsuit filed by El Cenizo seeking to declare the law unconstitutional.

A ruling on that lawsuit is due before the law goes into effect on Sept. 1.
