Pool hall argument possibly led to beating outside convenience store on Vance Jackson

Bexar ME: Victim identified as Juan Romero, 41; Suspects sought

SAN ANTONIO – An argument at a pool hall possibly led to the beating death of 41-year-old Juan Romero outside a convenience store late Monday night, San Antonio police said.

San Antonio police said Romero was attacked by three men outside the Diamond Food Mart on Vance Jackson Road around 10 p.m.

Investigators said the beating stemmed from a dispute at a pool hall weeks earlier.

According to a police report, two of the suspects cornered Romero as he was leaving the store, then a third suspect threw Romero to the ground and all three started beating him.

According to the police report, Romero was not just outmatched, he was also much smaller than his attackers.

The three suspects are all described as being about 6 feet tall and weighing 250 pounds. Romero was 5 feet 5 inches and 120 pounds.

Romero was rushed to the University hospital, but died during surgery, San Antonio police said.

Police said the assault was caught on surveillance video, but no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call San Antonio police.
