Portion of old Solo Serve construction site collapses into SA River

Crew working to tear down old building

SAN ANTONIO – A portion of the San Antonio River Walk was closed Wednesday after part of a construction site collapsed into it.

Crews have been working to tear down the old Solo Serve building near Commerce and Solidad streets in recent weeks.

Part of the wood paneling along the edge of the construction site crashed into the river around 3:30 p.m.

Cecil Thornberry, in town visiting, witnessed the crash.

"We're on vacation from Arkansas. We just came down here to walk down the sidewalk and we saw where they were tearing the building and we heard the big crash and thought the crane had fallen off and then all of them boards started falling all into the water and everywhere," she said.

That area was closed off to the public while cleanup occurred.

No one was injured.
