Project designs unveiled to attract choice employers to Brooks City Base

SAN ANTONIO – Designs were unveiled to help beautify Brooks City Base in the hope of attracting choice employers while strengthening the community.

The Brooks City Base president and CEO on Monday said a 35-foot steel bronze sculpture will be installed in August. Crews plan to have it standing in the middle of an urban linear park that will connect with the San Antonio River and Mission Reach. The park is set to open in October.

The art piece features a boy running with a moon made of butterflies. Officials said it will celebrate the visionaries and dreamers who helped make Brooks what it is today.

“Now we have more jobs on the Brooks campus than we had before when it was an Air Force base,” said Rebecca Viagran, District 3 councilwoman.

Brooks City Base is also taking the time to celebrate Fiesta with a new medal. This year’s medal features the moon and a butterfly.
