SA Zoo donates, plants 2 trees at school hit by storm

Volunteers plant trees at Woodridge Elementary in Alamo Heights ISD

SAN ANTONIO – One Alamo Heights Independent School District school that was affected by the tornadoes and storms last month is getting a little help.

The San Antonio Zoo donated two trees to Woodridge Elementary School and planted them on Tuesday to help spruce up the school grounds. One of the tornadoes from the late February storm devastated the school's campus. Zoo volunteers turned their passion into action by offering their time and resources to plant a juvenile live oak and magnolia tree at the school.

“The kids are going to come back, especially the kids that are helping us today are going to come back,” said Debbie Garinger, the principal of Woodridge Elementary School. “They will be able to say, ‘I was there when they planted that tree.’”

The zoo volunteers hope the trees will help beautify the Woodridge school grounds and inspire others to volunteer.
