City Councilman Joe Krier will not run for re-election

Krier represents District 9

SAN ANTONIO – Well-known District 9 City Councilman Joe Krier will not be seeking reelection for his spot on council.

Appointed in Nov. 2013 to fill a vacancy on council, Krier was elected to a full-term in May 2014.

In a statement Krier said:

Over the last three years, working with the incomparable Ivy Taylor, a strong, consensus-building mayor and leader, and nine hard-working colleagues, we have accomplished almost all those goals. As someone who has known, worked with and supported eight mayors, I am particularly grateful to Mayor Taylor for her confidence in and support for me, particularly in choosing me as the chairman of the Council’s Economic Development Committee and its committee that oversees our state and federal agendas.

He also thanked City Manager Sheryl Sculley and said he was proud to represent District 9.

Krier said San Antonio has never been in a stronger position, which is why he said it was the right time to step down.

Before his role on City Council, he spent two decades leading the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

Krier has served on numerous boards during his time in public service including, the San Antonio Economic Development Coordinating Council, Arts Council of San Antonio.
