SAN ANTONIO - A San Antonio couple spent their Father’s Day weekend, not with each other remembering their infant daughter, but instead searching for her remains after they said someone stole them.
Cristian Bustamante and Jasmine Mena said on Saturday morning someone stole their daughters remains, while they were staying at a hotel.
“Just please bring her back," Bustamante said. "I don’t care what else you took. I don’t care. All I want is her.”
Bustamante said someone broke a window in their car and stole their daughter’s remains.
“It was a blue velvet box, with a little a golden clasp, and it had a heart-shaped urn,” Mena said.
“I look closely at the passenger window and it was just broken into and the first thing I thought was Angel,” Bustamente said.
The couple said their daughter, Angel, died on Feb. 27, 2017, two hours after being born.
The infant died after being diagnosed with limb-body wall complex. The condition results in defects in the arms and legs and openings in the anterior body wall which includes the chest and belly.
“When I was around 28 weeks, they told me they would have to induce me and there was little chance of survival when she came,” Mena said.
The couple said they have filed a police report and are hoping to get their daughter back soon.
“Even though it’s her remains, I know she is still here in my heart. She is always going to be in my heart. She is watching over us. I know she is,” Bustamante said.
