San Antonio Food Bank gets big breakfast boost from H-E-B

Grocery giant donates 2.9 million meals worth of oatmeal

SAN ANTONIO – H-E-B is getting a jump-start on the giving season with a big donation of HEB-brand oatmeal dropped off at the San Antonio Food Bank.

Wednesday's contribution is just the first of numerous donations that H-E-B is making this year.

The South Texas grocery giant is sending 17 trucks to 17 food banks across the state -- to help out the less fortunate this holiday season.

"We know hunger still exists in the state of Texas and this is the way of addressing hunger across the community (for) many kids and families (who)] are food insecure," H-E-B's Danny Flores said. "By making these donations on a state level, it's our way of fighting hunger across the state."

The oatmeal donations are projected to serve 2.9 million meals total.

It's big help, considering the San Antonio Food Bank alone feeds about 55,000 people a per week.
