SAN ANTONIO - Two serial robbers who are accused of using a stolen U-Haul in carjackings and other robberies are in custody and now face felony charges.

Jennifer Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the San Antonio Police Department, said officers arrested 22-year-old Adan San Gabriel on Friday after he fled from a traffic stop in the U-Haul.

The second suspect, Preciliano Perez, 22, was already in custody at the Bexar County Jail for an unrelated aggravated robbery charge, Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said that, in late September, Gabriel and Perez stole a U-Haul truck and later used it in at least three robberies on the city's South Side.

"During the robberies, a weapon was produced and demands were made. Two of (the robberies) were carjackings and one of them was a robbery of a business," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said officers spotted the specific U-Haul truck from those robberies Friday morning and attempted to pull it over for a traffic stop near the intersection of Harry Wurzbach and Rittiman roads.

The driver, Gabriel, sped off and evaded police for miles until he crashed the U-Haul near the 5600 block of Ping Way in Schertz and was taken into custody, according to Rodriguez.

Gabriel and Perez face three counts of aggravated robbery. Gabriel faces additional charges of evading in a motor vehicle and a parole violation that stems from Friday morning's incident.

Rodriguez said police believe the pair have committed more robberies in the San Antonio area and additional charges against them are expected.
