San Antonio sending over 5,000 gallons of drinking water to Corpus Christi

City sending drinking water in support of residents

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio city officials said Mayor Ivy R. Taylor, in conjunction with the San Antonio Water System, is sending more than 5,000 gallons of drinking water to the city of Corpus Christi.

Taylor has coordinated the water's delivery to support a local children's hospital via the water system's 5,000-gallon tanker truck, city officials said.

"In the true spirit of San Antonio, I am proud that we are able to help Corpus Christi -- our neighbor to the south -- during its water crisis," Taylor said. "It is my hope that the clean water we are sending that way will help ease some of the concerns and give families hope for a permanent solution that I'm sure will come."

The water will be distributed by the Salvation Army Family Store, which has been a distribution center since the water issue initially arose, city officials said.

City officials said the water being transported by the tanker truck will play a major role in the emergency supply of dialysis machines at the Driscoll Children's Hospital, which is in the 3500 block of South Alameda in Corpus Christi.

"We are happy to assist the mayor's office in support of our neighbors in Corpus Christi," SAWS President and CEO Robert R. Puente said. "The San Antonio culture is to help our neighbors when in need and we are happy we can be of assistance."
