SAPD officer hit by car while assisting with crash suffers head injuries

Police have not identified officer, say he is stable

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio police officer was rushed to an area hospital with head injuries early Sunday morning after he was hit by driver who told police she didn't see the officer working traffic.

The incident happened in the 8600 block of South Flores Street just after 1 a.m. as the officer was working traffic for a crash that occurred on Roosevelt Avenue.

The driver came up behind the officer, who was in the No. 2 traffic lane on South Flores, and hit him, police said. The woman stopped to render aid, according to authorities.

Police don't believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, noting that she did not show any signs of intoxication when police evaluated her after the crash. Police said she's not facing charges.

Police said at last check, the officer was in stable condition. He has not yet been identified.
