SAPD submits officer-involved shooting investigation case to DA's office

Officer John Lee shot, killed Antronie Scott

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department has submitted its findings of a fatal officer-involved shooting to the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's Office for review.

"While there is some forensic evidence that is still being processed, we turned over what is currently available to the district attorney's office, so that they can begin their independent examination of the case," Police Chief William McManus said Thursday in a news release.

The case involves the events on Feb. 4 that led to the fatal shooting of Antronie Scott, 36, by Officer John Lee.

Scott had a cellphone in his hand when Lee, who McManus said feared for his life, opened fire. Scott suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.

The shooting happened in the evening hours outside the Wood Hollow Apartments near Isom and East Ramsey roads.

Lee was called to the scene to help undercover officers arrest Scott, who was wanted on outstanding warrants. SAPD policy doesn't allow undercover officers to make stops, because they are not in uniform or in marked vehicles.

Lee, a 10-year veteran of the force, is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation by the DA's office and SAPD internal affairs.

"The administrative case is currently being investigated by SAPD internal affairs and they are working diligently to complete that portion of the investigation," McManus said. "We will continue to provide updates into the administrative aspects of the case as they become available."
