Deckard shot while pursuing pair of robbery suspects

SAN ANTONIO – Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of the death of San Antonio Police Officer Robert Deckard.

Deckard was shot on Dec. 8, 2013, while in pursuit of two robbery suspects.

He died 12 days later after being taken off life support.

SAPD observed a moment of silence Saturday morning on radio scanners to remember Deckard.

The two suspects arrested in the shooting death of Deckard, 32-year-old Shawn Puente and 28-year-old Jenevieve Ramos, have been charged with capital murder and aggravated assault on a peace officer.

Trials for Puente and Ramos won't be until next year.

The pair face life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted.
