Classmates are raising money for $500 scholarships that will go to two Highland High School students enrolled in criminal justice courses and are active members of the police explorers program.

Deckard's family was in attendance at a fundraiser Monday night.

"I thank the community for coming through to do this for Bobby and I think it's wonderful," said Yvonne Whitney, Deckard's mother. "So many communities you just don't see this and with this one we have seen it. It's great. It's wonderful."

The group also designed a medal to sell during fiesta. 500 will be sold for $10 each. Proceeds go to the scholarship fund.
