Seguin opens new animal shelter

New building located at 555 Fred Byrd Drive

SEGUIN, Texas – A big upgrade is coming to a South Texas animal shelter, as crews celebrate a new building.

A new state-of-the-art shelter in Seguin is now open and replaces the older building crews were working in. The new animal service building is located on Fred Byrd Drive near the golf course at Starcke Park.

It took a few months longer than anticipated to open, but the building replaces the old one that had been in service for 70 years.

The new facility can now hold more animals, keeping them safe and comfortable.

"It has natural light (and) proper sanitation. It has proper flooring. It has the right-size cages and they are adequately housed so these animals are less stressed out.” Jessica Montgomery with animal services said.

The center said they also encourage volunteers to sign up to help run the facility.
