Sexual harassment policies at state Capitol need review, lawmakers say

SAN ANTONIO – Texas lawmakers are calling for sexual harassment policies at the state Capitol to be reviewed after some said current procedures offer little protection for victims.

Rep. Ina Minjarez, who represents part of San Antonio, is among those state lawmakers calling for change.

“The bipartisan effort in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey is the same level of involvement we need to solve this problem," Minjarez wrote in a letter. "The accusations stem from staffers and interns against members of both parties, so we have to come together in the same way to add protections and create a safe working environment.”

However, because elected officials are largely in control of their own offices, lawmakers can't be forced to do anti-harassment training.
