SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar is enforcing stricter hiring requirements on future detention cadet candidates after 20 Bexar County Sheriff's Office employees were arrested since the start of 2018.
Salazar submitted the proposed change to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Civil Service Commission regarding the Deputy Sheriff - Detention Cadet job description.

The following changes were approved Monday:
"No prior arrest records for: driving while intoxicated, driving while impaired, no possession or trafficking of illegal narcotics or drugs, assault, stalking, family violence, theft, crimes of moral turpitude, or sexual offenses. All applicants must not have had any prior discipline which involves a violation of the uniform
code of military justice (non-judicial punishment).”
"We are committed to recruiting qualified applicants that will represent Bexar County sheriff’s office with pride and uphold the BCSO guiding principles," Salazar said in a news release.
The new hiring requirement is in addition to the Sheriff's Office's intention to add a psychologist to its staff.
