Sheriff responds publicly to recent deputy arrests

7 deputies facing charges in separate incidents

SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau issued a public response Friday to a string of recent deputy arrests.

Pamerleau said the charges faced by the seven deputies -- including drunken driving, criminal mischief and assault -- are all crimes that plague the community.

But she said the seven deputies are only a small sample of the sheriff's office.

"The poor decisions made by a few do not reflect the dedication and hard work of the more than 99 percent of the deputies and employees of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office," she said.

Three of the seven deputies are no longer employed at the sheriff's office.

Pamerleau said her office is focused on getting help for those who need it dealing with a high-stress job.
