Shooting victim's dying words: 'Check on my mama'

James Morrison accused of killing his girlfriend's mother, sister

SAN ANTONIO – James Morrison (pictured) is on trial for capital murder, accused of killing two women and seriously wounding another.

Laura Moten, 46, and her daughter, Krystle Moten, 23, were shot to death. Candice Moten, 25, was injured. She was Morrison's live-in girlfriend.

Quincy Dunn, 28, lived with the women and was engaged to Krystle Moten.

Testifying on Friday in Morrison's trial, he said he heard gunshots as he showered inside the apartment they all shared.

"I just heard a lot if gunshots," Dunn said.

As he dashed outside, he said, "I saw Mr. Morrison run past my window."

He said he ran to his fiancée's side.

"Was she able to talk to you?," asked prosecutor Jan Ischy.

"Yes," Dunn replied. "She said check on my mama."

Morrison is accused of shooting the three women in the parking lot of the apartment complex during a profanity laced domestic disturbance.

If he is found guilty, he faces the death penalty.

Testimony will continue on Monday in Judge Ron Rangel's 379th District Court.
