When I wrote this story about my assault, I initially wasn’t going to make the abuser. But I think it’s important for you all to know this is about Melanie Martinez pic.twitter.com/4PQ5oNI2s9

Martinez responded to the rape allegation Tuesday morning by saying she was horrified and saddened by the story.
“She never said no to what we chose to do together. And although we parted ways, I am sending her love and light always,” Martinez said.
Martinez is a singer-songwriter in the alternative and indie rock scene.
Some Martinez fan accounts have responded.
Twitter reactions to the news are mixed. Some responses are posted below.
Melanie this is a completely unacceptable response. Not saying no doesn’t mean yes. But for the record, she did and has stressed that numerous times. Shame on you for this disgusting reply that contributes to the victim culture we live in. @MelanieLBBH https://t.co/4nxCbxzofh

FYI Melanie Martinez deserves the exact same treatment and backlash as any man who sexually assaults someone. She does not get to be excused because she is a woman. She’s just as guilty.

Here is @TimothyHeller literally trying to be Melanie Martinez. The more I learn about her, the less I believe. She is clearly trying to steal her fandom. pic.twitter.com/q3XBX99BmU

Just because Melanie Martinez sexually assaulted someone doesn't mean you can't enjoy her music anymore. Separate the artist from the music they create
