SAN ANTONIO – The father of 17-year-old Andrea Gamez said his daughter is recovering after she was critically injured in a fatal wrong-way crash last week.
Gamez's father said she has been taken off life support and is breathing on her own.

She was hospitalized last Tuesday night after her car was hit head-on by a wrong-way driver on I-35 near Kinney Road.
Heidi Ayala, 57, was driving the car that hit Gamez and died at the scene. Bexar County sheriff's officials believe she was drunk.
Gamez, a junior at Somerset High School, had just left work at Whataburger when the crash happened around 10:30 p.m.
She was taken by medical helicopter to University Hospital in critical condition.
