South Side water main break leaves 5K without water

Bottled water stations have been set up by SAWS

SAN ANTONIO – A water main break on the city's South Side overnight has left nearly 5,000 people without water, a spokesperson with the San Antonio Water System said Wednesday.

SAWS spokesperson Anne Hayden said the customers impacted are located south of Loop 1604 between Applewhite Road and Interstate 37. The customers will be without water for about the next 10 hours, Hayden said. After that, a boil water notice will go into effect, which is protocol after a main break.

SAWS said after fixing the break they will still have to flush the main, repressurize the system and then fill the water tank.

SAWS has set up water stations to help residents receive water:

  • Bottled Water: Shady Forest & Priest Rd (Waterwood)
  • Water Tanker: 281 South & Memorial Drive (customers must bring containers)
