Strangers surprise boy who missed San Antonio snow with Christmas presents, snowballs

SAN ANTONIO – While most San Antonians enjoyed the snow outdoors, 5-year-old Justin Sanchez was in his hospital bed recovering from complications from tonsil removal surgery. But, not all hope was lost.

When KSAT asked viewers to share their snow day photos on Thursday, Justin's mom, Marianna Sanchez, shared a photo of her super-mom effort to bring the snow party to Justin.

"He was so sad that he could only see it from the window, so I ran down and stuffed as much snow as I could into a vomit bag and we had our own little snow party in his room," Sanchez said.

Several people were moved by her commitment to making the rare snow day as special as she could for her son. As people left comments cheering her efforts and wishing Justin a speedy recovery, a woman reached out to her asking if they could bring him a surprise.

We want to see your snow pics! Post them in the comments and tell us what side of town you're on! ❄⛄❄ (We may use them on air!) #snowinsanantonio #snowinsa

"From that post, a stranger reached out to me and did such an incredible thing for my son," Sanchez said.

After vetting the woman's Facebook profile, Sanchez gave the woman the green light to come to the hospital.

The stranger, Lillian Garcia Martinez, and her friends delivered toys and snowballs from Bahama Bucks to Justin's room on Friday.

"I think he’s in shock just as I am that strangers did such a nice thing for him," Sanchez said.

She said Justin is already talking about paying it forward as soon as he gets better. He said he would like to buy toys to give to the children who are spending the holidays in the hospital.
