TCEQ: Continue taking precautions with Crystal City water

Spokeswoman says more testing needed

CRYSTAL CITY, Texas – The TCEQ says Crystal City residents should still take precautions with their water.

TCEQ spokeswoman Andrea Morrow said Monday the most recent samples taken by the city for water pressure, chlorination and bacteria have come back "in the acceptable range." However, Morrow said, "we are continuing to do further testing before we can give them an all clear."

Morrow said the agency hopes to have most of the results Tuesday.

Residents should continue to boil city water and avoid drinking any discolored water, she said.

Last Wednesday, some reported black water coming from their faucets, which the city said was sediment from the water tower being flushed. City employees opened fire hydrants to flush the sediment out of the system.

The TCEQ took chlorine residual and water pressure measurements at five sites on Thursday and found they were "compliant with TCEQ regulations."

While the city said Friday morning the water was safe, it also provided alternatives to wary residents. That evening, TCEQ issued a news release suggesting residents boil their water and avoid drinking any discolored water.
