Terminally ill Star Wars fan, first to see new film, passes away Tuesday

Daniel Fleetwood, 32, saw movie last week after gaining internet support

HOUSTON – Daniel Fleetwood, the first 'Star Wars' fan to see the new film, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" passed away on Tuesday following a bout with cancer. He was 32 years old.

KSAT 12's sister station in Houston KPRC, first reported the news.

Just last week, Fleetwood attended a special screening of the film after his wife and supporters asked Disney to help fulfill Daniel's dying wish. Even Mark Hamill, actor of Luke Skywalker, joined in the cause on Twitter.

Early Tuesday Daniel's wife following his passing, posted a message on Facebook:

"Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end. He is now with God and with the Force."
