TIMELINE: World Heritage nomination process

San Antonio Franciscan Missions

SAN ANTONIO – Since 2006, City of San Antonio and Bexar County officials have been working with the National Parks Service to have the San Antonio Franciscan Missions recognized as a World Heritage Site.

On Sunday, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will begin the 2015 World Heritage Convention to determine which new sites will be inscribed, and the missions have made the list of nominees.
