Tree Recovery Initiative announced for SA residents impacted by recent storm

Trees to be gifted, planted in Districts 1, 10

SAN ANTONIO – Mayor Ivy Taylor and City Council members announced on Friday a Tree Recovery Initiative for San Antonio residents impacted by the recent storm.

The Parks and Recreation Department will help the recovery effort by donating trees to Districts 1 and 10, areas that were hit hardest by tornadoes over President’s Day Weekend. Residents of impacted neighborhoods have expressed concerns about the number of big, beautiful trees that were uprooted by the storms.

“We’ll never be able to plant something that is as majestic as what we lost,” said Xavier D. Urrutia, director of the Parks and Recreation Department. “Hopefully, over time, it will grow and provide that same enjoyment and comfort that the trees they lost did at one time.”

The city estimated that at least 300 homes were affected by tree damage.
