SAN ANTONIO - A woman whose children were found tied and chained outside a northeast Bexar County home last year was in court Thursday for a pretrial hearing.

Cheryl Reed, who is the children’s mother, Porucha Phillips and Deandra Dorch are facing injury to a child-serious bodily injury charges.

Reed had left the children in Phillips’ care at a home Phillips and Dorch shared in the 8100 block of Chipping Drive.  Reed was in California, investigators said.

“It’s tragic for the kids involved,” defense attorney Alan Futrell said. “It’s hard to determine what happened.”

Futrell represents Phillips. He and the attorneys representing the other two defendants are reviewing what is called “discovery evidence” that they are entitled to have as they prepare their respective defense cases.

No trial date has been set in the case, but in all likelihood, it will probably take place in mid-summer, attorneys said.
