Triple shooting on Northeast Side doesn't dim Halloween spirits

Sunrise subdivision often sees crime

SAN ANTONIO – It's a home that's been plagued with calls to police. On Monday, it was the location of a triple shooting.

Officers have been called out to the house in the 4000 block on Sunrise Creek Drive on the city's northeast side 25 times this year alone, according to an open records request.

There wasn't a single trick-or-treater on the block as the sun set Halloween night. Three men were shot on the street hours earlier. Just two weeks ago, police arrested two teenage boys in connection with a carjacking and chase that led to a standoff at the same home.

"They used to call it, what, gunrise?" Sunrise subdivision resident Atesa Collins asked. She didn't let the criminal activity in her neighborhood stop her from passing out Halloween candy.

"I have to. It's for the kids. Got to keep it up for the kids," Collins said.

Kids celebrated the holiday just a few blocks away from the crime scene, but safety was on a lot of people's minds.

"Crime (is) happening everywhere but when it hits this close to home, it's disturbing," resident Foster Dorrough said.

While investigators continue to piece together what happened, officers are in search of a small, black SUV that had two men inside at the time of the shootings.

Police are familiar with the home the triple shooting happened at and the block. Back in August, 24-year-old Anthony Harrison was gunned down at a house directly across the street from Monday's crime scene.

San Antonio Police Department Chief William McManus is considering options to deter crime in the neighborhood.

All three shooting victims were transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center. An officer who remained at the scene said they're expected to survive.

After the triple shooting, KSAT-12 requested prior police calls to the home where it occurred. They included assault, disturbance with a gun, narcotics and more.
