SAN ANTONIO – South Texas residents and others from across the country paid their respects Monday to slain San Antonio police Detective Benjamin Marconi.
Marconi was fatally shot Sunday as he was writing a ticket in his patrol unit near San Antonio Police Department headquarters.
The alleged suspect 31-year-old Otis McKane was arrested Monday afternoon, SAPD officials said.
Since receiving news of the fatal shooting, the San Antonio community has rallied to show its support and share prayers for the fallen detective and his family. Marconi was a husband, father of two and grandfather from Floresville.
A makeshift memorial was set up outside police headquarters, and patrons left balloons, flowers and cards with messages to Marconi, his family and the department.
Many people said they were heartbroken and wanted to share their support for law enforcement and show their appreciation for everything first responders do for the community, including putting their lives on the line.
