SAN ANTONIO – The construction of San Antonio's first downtown skyscraper in 27 years is moving quickly.

As of Dec. 15, workers had already laid the groundwork for several stories of the 23-floor building. If completed as planned, the new tower will be approximately 400 feet tall with 23 floors and about 420,000 square feet.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2018.

Frost Tower will be the new headquarters for Frost Bank, which has maintained a downtown headquarters for nearly 150 years.

OxBlue, a video company that offers time-lapse services on construction projects, has monitored the progress of construction crews using two cameras. Time-lapse video shows the construction of the building dating back to Feb. 23.

Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects was selected to design the tower. In 2016, William Butler, the lead designer on the project, noted the significance the project has to San Antonio.

“This design is so important to San Antonio and its downtown, a modern compliment to the masonry towers of the city’s past," Butler said. "We set out to create something iconic and timeless for San Antonio and believe the Frost Tower achieves just that.”
